What is a Data Sharing Tool?

A data sharing tool enables businesses to share live, secure data with their business. This allows teams to tackle a wide range of critical business challenges, such as breaking down silos, speeding the process of completing projects, empowering collaboration with transparency of data, and unlocking new insights.

As enterprise IT applications increase and become more complex, the need for solutions for real-time data sharing has become a necessity for realizing business goals. The amount of data generated by IoT devices, office equipment and website visitors is increasing exponentially.

Many data-sharing tool of these integrations are driven by the need to improve efficiency, analytics and revenue streams. The biggest challenge is to move these massive amounts of data, at scale, from source to destination without losing its value. The conventional approaches include SFTP or pre-signed URLs for objects, and data movement through ETL processes, don’t scale to the data volumes needed and are only applicable to a single-vendor solution (e.g., Oracle, AWS Redshift, Snowflake).

To address the challenges of real-time data sharing there are a variety of solutions emerging. In particular, a class of platforms that understand the data they carry and serve as a trusted intermediary between apps can help to solve many of these problems. This shifts the burden of managing data flows to the platform’s provider and can simplify and speed up data integration by getting rid of many of the complex features of retry and re-transmission that are inherent to most traditional tools.
