Avast Ultimate is a security program with an excellent detection rate and a variety of additional features. Its malware scanner scored an excellent score in my tests, and its web protection blocked a number of phishing websites which slipped through Chrome and Firefox’s default security. Other features include the Rescue Disk, a secure browser for online shopping and banking, advanced tracker blockers and a VPN.
The interface for users of the suite is simple to navigate. Its main screen displays a list of its key tools with clear icons that explain their purpose. Avast employs an orange, blue, and white color scheme that is pleasing to the eyes and easy to read.
You will find the precise controls for each tool within the Explore menu. These include custom scans as well as boot time scanning and an automatic updater. You can also save a particular type of scan to the “Scan Center” so that you can run it at a later time.
Among the more advanced features, Avast’s anti-virus can prevent ransomware attacks by securing your system for suspicious activity and then encrypting any files that could be targeted. It can also detect trojan horses (a malicious program that gets into your computer disguised as genuine software) and stop it from running on your system.
Avast’s security products are backed by 24/7 live chat, email, and phone support. The free versions of the product are backed by a vast community and knowledge base, while paid plans include advanced features like identity protection unlimited VPN, USB protection and patch management.
